The BSGE has announced the publication of a new ‘Evidence based guideline on laparoscopy in pregnancy.’ The guideline was published in Facts, Views and Vision, an open-access journal produced by the European Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (ESGE).
The guidelines indicate that intraabdominal emergencies that require laparoscopic surgery can be safely managed during pregnancy. However, as the available evidence comes from specialist centres, it is recommended that these operations are performed by surgeons who are appropriately trained in complex laparoscopic surgery.
The guidelines were prepared by a BSGE working party according to the methodology used by the RCOG. Members can access and download the full guideline here.
