Updates from the Committee
Welcome to the endometriosis nurse committee. Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to Liz Bruen earlier this year as her term on the committee came to an end. We thank her for all her hard work, commitment, passion and drive for women’s health, and contributing so significantly to the work of the BSGE.
We welcome 2 new members to the nurse committee, Zway and Rosie (read more about them below). We very much looking forward to working with them on the committee, alongside myself, Claudia and Jenny in continuing with our drive and focus on the projects of the BSGE Nurse portfolio.
The BSGE ASM and Pre Congress-Nurses Day in Manchester were a great success. Thank you to everyone involved in making the 3 days such a high-quality event. I strongly believe that education and shared learning is a lifelong commitment to being the best we can be, which ultimately enables us to provide the best care we can for our patients.

The BSGE Nurse subcommittee, Claudia, Jenny, Zway and Rosie join me in welcoming ideas for further growth and development. We are looking forward to continuing with our education programme, facilitating more webinars and continued work to improve the resources available on the website.
We look forward to exciting times ahead!
Meet The Portfolio Members
Gilly Macdonald
Chair of BSGE Endometriosis Nurse Portfolio
I have been in post as an Endometriosis Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Cornwall Endometriosis Centre since November 2016.
During this time, I have seen how the clinical nurse specialist is a fundamental part of a multidisciplinary team striving to achieve the very best care and service for our patients. As a member of the BSGE, I am aware of the society’s continued commitment to facilitate education, guidance, standard setting and professionalism. We continue to challenge obstacles within our practice and service delivery and the nurse’s role continues to evolve, creating an environment where we can work to our full potential. To enhance the patient journey in providing expert, high quality care and also to have a voice as a practitioner, leading nurse led services.
The CNS role is extremely rewarding. I provide an independent nurse led service encompassing pre and post-surgical care, and, for patients choosing a non-surgical approach of care. I am a member of the MDT, maintaining strong links with the team. I maintain the database for Cornwall Endometriosis Centre, run a patient support group and am non-medical prescriber. My particular interest is in pain management and psychology of pain.
Zway Magama

I have a passionate interest in caring for women with endometriosis and understand the connection of holistic wellbeing and diseases processes for women presenting with such conditions. I am a self-motivated individual who is always looking to advance my horizons to provide outstanding patient care. I am committed to my tasks assigned to me as evidenced by peer reviewed publications, presentations at national and international conferences.
I have been an active member of the BSGE since 2016 and this has allowed me to network and stay up to date on issues in women’s health. My aim and objectives are to empower endometriosis nurses to improve patient outcomes, provide comprehensive care, and empower patients with the knowledge and resources they need to manage their condition effectively.

Jenny Shaw
Endometriosis CNS
Hello, my name is Jenny and I represent the Welsh contingent of Endometriosis CNSs. Wales is trying a different care model by appointing Endometriosis CNSs to each Health Board in the country, not linked to accredited centres. I work within Cwm Taf University Health Board, in the beautiful South Wales valleys. I am passionate about Endometriosis care and proud to continue to be a part of this subcommittee. I hope that through the activities and opportunities that we and the BSGE provide, we can all share and learn from each other. Please get in touch if there is anything you would like to see us working on. We are here to represent and help you.
Claudia Tye
Endometriosis Nurse Specialist
I have held the post of Endometriosis Nurse Specialist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust since 2014, alongside my role as a nurse hysteroscopist. I have an extensive background in gynaecology nursing and have undergone additional training in counselling and psychotherapy.
I am a dedicated advocate of women with Endometriosis, and passionately highlight the importance of the role of the specialist nurse and advanced nursing practice. I have strong links with Endometriosis UK, with our well established monthly support group. I promote and support the role of the Endometriosis CNS through teaching, presenting, and publications.
I have gained great support from the BSGE as my own role has developed, and am excited to be able to participate in the valuable work of the society. My aim will be to support Gilly Macdonald in ensuring that all endometriosis nurse specialists can have a voice, and that together we can work towards progressing the specialist role which I believe is at the core of ensuring that the patient is heard, and that highest quality, appropriate and effective care is delivered to women who know that their well-informed, individual choices are respected and valued.
