Endometriosis Nurses Subcommittee

Updates from the Committee

Welcome to the endometriosis nurse committee. Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to Liz Bruen earlier this year as her term on the committee came to an end. We thank her for all her hard work, commitment, passion and drive for women’s health, and contributing so significantly to the work of the BSGE.

We welcome 2 new members to the nurse committee, Zway and Rosie (read more about them below). We very much looking forward to working with them on the committee, alongside myself, Claudia and Jenny in continuing with our drive and focus on the projects of the BSGE Nurse portfolio.

The BSGE ASM and Pre Congress-Nurses Day in Manchester were a great success. Thank you to everyone involved in making the 3 days such a high-quality event. I strongly believe that education and shared learning is a lifelong commitment to being the best we can be, which ultimately enables us to provide the best care we can for our patients.

2022 Achievements:

  • Mentor register well established
  • Biannual CNS education days
  • Greater social media networking, Facebook and WhatApp group established
  • Bitesize informal sessions continue

2023 Objectives:

  • Continue to deliver high quality education and learning
  • Develop the new BSGE website
  • Develop a patient ‘tool kit’
  • Develop patient information
  • Planning for 2024 ASM in Belfast

The BSGE Nurse subcommittee, Claudia, Jenny, Zway and Rosie join me in welcoming ideas for further growth and development. Our focus remains on; education, creating an informative and resourceful website, standardisation of the nurse role, patient information and documentation templates, and creating a professional and supportive environment for all our nurse colleagues.

We are looking forward to continuing with our education programme, facilitating more webinars and continued work to improve the resources available on the website.

We look forward to exciting times ahead!

Chair of Endometriosis Nurses Portfolio

I have been in post as an Endometriosis Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Cornwall Endometriosis Centre since November 2016.

During this time, I have seen how the clinical nurse specialist is a fundamental part of a multidisciplinary team striving to achieve the very best care and service for our patients. As a member of the BSGE, I am aware of the society’s continued commitment to facilitate education, guidance, standard setting and professionalism. We continue to challenge obstacles within our practice and service delivery and the nurse’s role continues to evolve, creating an environment where we can work to our full potential. To enhance the patient journey in providing expert, high quality care and also to have a voice as a practitioner, leading nurse led services.

The CNS role is extremely rewarding. I provide an independent nurse led service encompassing pre and post-surgical care, and, for patients choosing a non-surgical approach of care. I am a member of the MDT, maintaining strong links with the team. I maintain the database for Cornwall Endometriosis Centre, run a patient support group and am non-medical prescriber. My particular interest is in pain management and psychology of pain.
