The BSGE exists to improve standards, promote training and encourage the exchange of information in minimal access surgery techniques.
Joining us will enable you to access information, education and training as well as sharing knowledge and experiences with over a thousand members who are all passionate about minimally invasive surgery in gynaecology.
The BSGE is committed to supporting and improving training. It was actively involved with developing the ATSMs in hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery and lead the development of the two-year advanced laparoscopic module.
A new Registrars in Gynaecological Surgery (RIGS) group has just been launched, run by trainees for trainees. It has an integral role within the BSGE with dedicated trainee information, research, courses and of course social events.
A structured forum for trainees is about to be launched. As part of the training opportunities available we are also designing web based procedural skills modules for gynaecological trainees at all levels (ST1-ST7), highlighting the importance we place on training.
The Society was involved, at the request of the RCOG, with setting general standards for hysteroscopic and laparoscopic procedures. Best Practice documents are being developed for a number of procedures and are available for the benefit of BSGE members and our patients too.
Members are strongly encouraged to continue their training in endoscopic procedures whether they are nurses, trainee doctors, GPs or hold a substantive post as a consultant or SAS doctor. We run and promote courses in minimally invasive techniques and share information about educational opportunities for members. Bursaries and travelling fellowships may be available to help fund further study after twelve months of membership.
