The National Institute for Clinical Excellence, NICE, are currently developing guidelines on the management of heavy menstrual bleeding. BSGE president Dominic Byrne has urged the many BSGE members actively involved in the management of this problem to consider applying for membership of the NICE clinical guideline committee.

With members’ experience and expertise in minimally invasive techniques, this may provide an opportunity to influence policy and encourage a more modern approach to the management of heavy menstrual bleeding. In particular, it would be positive if there could be a move towards increased use of outpatient hysteroscopy and total laparoscopic hysterectomy where appropriate.

Dominic Byrne told the news team

“It would be great to see members of the BSGE being actively involved”
