| Dear Members, We would like to make you aware that a small number of BSGE members have recently received fraudulent emails claiming to be from me in my capacity as BSGE President. These emails have been sent from an unauthorised Gmail address using my name and a BSGE-related title. In some cases, they have included requests for financial transfers. We would like to reassure members that there is currently no evidence of any breach of BSGE systems or member data. These emails appear to be opportunistic phishing attempts that use publicly available information to impersonate individuals associated with the Society. We are sharing this information simply to raise awareness and encourage all members to remain vigilant. If you receive an unexpected or suspicious email claiming to be from me or any other BSGE representative, please: . Check the sender’s actual email address rather than relying on the displayed name. . Do not respond, click any links, open attachments, or make any payments. . Report the email through your organisation’s usual IT or cybersecurity reporting processes. . Forward the suspicious email to the UK National Cyber Security Centre at report@phishing.gov.uk before deleting it. If you are ever unsure whether a communication from the BSGE is genuine, please contact the Society through its usual official channels to verify its authenticity. Thank you to those members who have already brought these emails to our attention. With best wishes, Rebecca Mallick BSGE President |
