Kirana Arambage
I am honoured to stand for election as Treasurer of the BSGE.
For more than 12 years, I have had the privilege of serving our Society in a range of roles, including Trainee Representative, Chair of Awards and Bursaries, and most recently Honorary Secretary. Throughout this journey, my focus has been to strengthen the BSGE, create opportunities for members, and support the growth of our specialty.
I have contributed to initiatives that have delivered lasting benefits for members, including founding the BSGE/Oxford Fresh Cadaveric Laparoscopic Anatomy Course, supporting trainee programmes such as RIGS, and increasing Awards and Bursaries funding from £20,000 to £35,000 annually while introducing new opportunities for research and innovations. As Honorary Secretary, I led constitutional reforms and established the International Relations portfolio, strengthening the Society’s global engagement and partnerships.
Alongside my BSGE roles, I am a Consultant Gynaecologist at the Oxford BSGE Endometriosis Centre, a preceptor in advanced gynaecological endoscopy, Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Oxford, co-editor of the Oxford Handbook of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and recipient of the 2026 Patients’ Choice Award.
I am also a trustee of a large UK-wide charity, with experience in governance, financial planning, and strategic growth.
If elected Treasurer, I will provide financial stewardship, transparency, and strategic investment in education, research, innovation, and member development. My commitment is to maximise value for members and help the BSGE continue to thrive for the benefit of our profession and the patients we serve.
I would be grateful for your support.

Like many of us, I have benefited enormously from what the BSGE has provided throughout my career. This member-run Society has played a crucial role in my development as a gynaecological surgeon through its leadership in endometriosis governance, commitment to education and dedication to improving the quality of endoscopic surgery we deliver.
The BSGE has grown into a leading voice within UK gynaecology and is now the largest specialist gynaecology society affiliated with the RCOG. This success reflects the efforts of all of us, as members, continually striving to improve patient care while maintaining the supportive and collaborative culture that remains one of the society’s greatest strengths.
The Society’s growth is also reflected in its finances. With annual income now approaching £1 million, the BSGE delivers bigger and better scientific meetings, educational programmes, fellowships, and research grants. The Treasurer role is essential to maintain this for the benefit of our members and future of the society.
As our world becomes increasingly connected, I see opportunities to strengthen the BSGE’s international presence through collaboration with European societies and beyond, creating new opportunities for education, research and professional development. If elected, I would bring clinical experience, financial awareness and ambition to ensure resources are used wisely and equitably to support members alongside societal innovation and growth.
Most importantly, I would approach this role as a member who genuinely cares about the Society and its future, helping ensure BSGE remains financially strong, forward-looking, and able to deliver exceptional value for years to come.
