Objectives

  1. Recognise when and how diagnostic hysteroscopy should be performed.
  2. Understand how to perform procedures in the outpatient setting.
  3. Become familiar with operative hysteroscopic equipment.

Description

The workshop will combine lectures, case study discussion and practical stations.

The lectures will include patient selection, outpatient service set-up and the common operative procedures performed in hysteroscopy, with tips and tricks on how to perform them more effectively. There will be an emphasis on innovative ambulatory surgery. There will be question and answer sessions after the lectures to allow interaction between delegates and speakers.

The case studies will include videos and hysteroscopy images, followed by interactive discussion.

The practical stations will use both models and simulators rotating around stations every 30 mins. The stations will include improving camera skills and hand-eye coordination in:

  1. Diagnostic hysteroscopy
  2. Endometrial polypectomy with tissue removal devices, fine scissors and graspers
  3. Myomectomy with tissue removal devices and resectoscopes
  4. Global endometrial ablation

Who should attend?

Trainees who have registered or plan to register for the Benign Gynaecological Surgery: Hysteroscopy or Benign Abdominal Surgery: open and laparoscopic.

Consultants, SAS doctors (staff grade, associate specialist and specialty doctors) and nurse hysteroscopists who want to enhance their hysteroscopy skills.

GPs with an interest in gynaecology who want to do hysteroscopy or develop their hysteroscopy skills.

Delegates may claim up to 6 CPD credits for attendance.
