Jonathan Frappell FRCS FRCOG
After 25 years as an O&G consultant at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth I retired from active clinical practice in 2016. Since then I have continued my medico-legal work, mainly focused on gynaecological surgery. I have had a long association with BSGE since its founding in 1989 and served as President from 2010-12.
Mark Whittaker
I am a consultant gynaecologist working in the South West of England and based in Gloucestershire. I have resigned my NHS consultant post to work in a several NHS and private hospitals to allow me to offer a better service to my patients.
I have focused my practice around laparoscopic and hysteroscopic management of menstrual problems and endometriosis. I led the BSGE LapHyst project a pilot study teaching UK consultants in laparoscopic hysterectomy.
Matthew-Izett-Kay
I am currently a Subspecialty Trainee in Urogynaecology at The John Radcliffe in Oxford. I am a research active clinician with ongoing NIHR funded and internationally collaborative research across a number of methodologies and topic areas, including minimally invasive gynaecological surgery. I spent a decade training in London, during which I completed an MD thesis at UCL looking at laparoscopic surgery for uterine prolapse and the role of mesh augmented surgery. I spent two years at both King’s College Hospital and University College Hospital receiving training from UK pioneers in both vaginal and abdominal pelvic floor surgery.
Rebecca Mallick
Current Position – Consultant Gynaecologist at Princess Royal Hospital, University Hospitals Sussex.
Consultant at the trust for 3 and half years and gynaecologist for the Sussex Endometriosis Centre.
Also heavily involved in teaching and training and I am training programme director for O&G in KSS.
Published and presented on a number of subjects particularly of late the impact of COVID on training in gynaecology.
Dr Kearney
Dr Kearney is a Consultant Urogynaecologist and Clinical Head of Gynaecology at Saint Mary’s Hospital, Manchester. She qualified from University College Dublin in 1996 and trained in Ireland, US and UK. After completing a research fellowship in the Department of Pelvic Floor Surgery at the University of Michigan researching pelvic floor imaging and the pathogenesis of childbirth related pelvic floor injury, she completed her subspecialty training in urogynaecology at University College Hospital, London with a strong focus on laparoscopic urogynaecology. Following this she was appointed as a Consultant Gynaecologist to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge in 2006 and moved to Saint Mary’s Hospital, Manchester in 2014. Dr Kearney works in the Warrell unit, the North West tertiary centre for pelvic floor disorders and mesh complications.
Dr Kearney is actively involved in research and her current research is looking at self-management of vaginal support pessaries and obstructed defecation after anal sphincter injury. She was the topic lead for prolapse on the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guideline committee for urinary incontinence and prolapse, published in 2019. She is a member of NHS England Clinical Reference Group for Women’s Specialised Services. She has published on the management of mesh complications and was part of the NICE group developing patient decisions aids for surgical management of incontinence, prolapse and mesh complications.
Shaheen Khazali
Shaheen has focused his practice almost exclusively on advanced endometriosis surgery and works at two very busy BSGE endometriosis centres in Surrey and London. He has a particular interest in gastrointestinal and urinary tract endometriosis excision and in Neuropelveology.
Shaheen has served on the BSGE council for almost 10 years in different roles.
He has a passion for teaching endometriosis surgery. He has trained many surgeons who are now leading experts in the field and run successful endometriosis centres, both in the UK and abroad.
Shilpa Kolhe
Ms Shilpa Kolhe is a Consultant Gynaecologist at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton. She was appointed as the lead consultant for ambulatory gynaecology in 2013 and has contributed immensely to develop comprehensive ambulatory 1-stop hysteroscopy services including establishment of Nurse-led hysteroscopy unit at Royal Derby Hospital.
Ms Kolhe runs the Advanced Ambulatory Hysteroscopy Courses at Derby since 2014 and is also a faculty for the RCOG Hysteroscopy ATSM course and BSGE / GESEA workshops. Her special interests include menstrual disorders, fibroids, minimal access surgery for benign gynaecology, paediatric gynaecology, ambulatory hysteroscopy, and gynae scanning.
Swati Jha
Swati is a Consultant Gynaecologist and subspecialist in Urogynaecology working at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. She co-authored the curriculum for laparoscopic UG and is the lap UG trainer in Sheffield.
She is research active and has written two books on Medicolegal issues in O and G. She is associate editor for TOG and Best Practice in O and G as well as being a spokesperson to the RCOG on pelvic floor health. She was the Chair of the British Society of Urogynaecology till November 2021 and currently serves on the Urogynaecology committee of FIGO.
Christian Becker
Christian Becker is an Associate Professor at the Nuffield Department of Women’s and Reproductive Health at the University of Oxford.
He is an Honorary Consultant and Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery working mostly at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
Christian is the co-director of the Endometriosis Care Centre leading a comprehensive basic, translational and clinical research program.
He is the clinical lead for endometriosis, pelvic pain, fertility and adolescent gynaecology.
Christian is the current Chair of the ESHRE Endometriosis Guideline Development Group which has just been published and was a co-opted member of the NICE Guideline for Endometriosis.
