Endometriosis Centres for the laparoscopic treatment of recto-vaginal endometriosis

The management of deep endometriosis of the posterior cul de sac is considered to be an area of surgical complexity and potential for complications. It is the aim of the BSGE to aid members involved in managing such complex cases. To this endeavour, the BSGE has set up criteria for centres wishing BSGE accreditation in carrying out laparoscopic treatment of recto-vaginal endometriosis.

These include: a dedicated endometriosis clinic; at least 12 recto-vaginal surgically treated laparoscopically per year and working with a named colorectal surgeon.

Crucially and for the first time, in order to gain accreditation from a Specialist Society, centres seeking approval must also submit all pre-operative, operative and post-operative data onto the secure national database for all patients treated by the centre with recto-vaginal endometriosis.

The BSGE aims to publish the names of the centres that conform to these criteria every six months.
